I've Done It Again...
Went for another month without posting anything on my blog...
Started lessons with a new piano teacher yesterday. I know... why did I change my piano teacher when I should be changing my violin teacher. Some clarification is needed here. I did not choose to change my piano teacher, my previous piano teacher felt that I require a better teacher to guide me if I want to perform to potential, and I was warned that my new teacher is strict & firm.
Well, first lesson went well with lots of laughter and I hope this keeps up. BUT she really is strict. After playing JS Bach's 2-parts Invention in C major for her, I got the comment that I've turned Bach into a romantic. My technique and musicality was fine, but just the way I played it was veering too much into the romantic era and not bringing out the baroque-ness of the piece. Lots of question marks here.
Then there was the thing about bringing out each voice etc etc which I did not quite get, but I must have subconsciously understood what she was trying to say because I did manage to play what she wanted.
After my overly romantic Bach was my overly curved fingers. A habit that most piano teachers inculcate in their students which my new teacher says will hinder my playing if I want to be able to play fast/ virtuoso. Suddenly, I have to change years of playing habit... my consolation is my teacher went through the same thing so she knows it will take months to change the shape of the fingers when they play the piano.
I can see my 2nd teacher's 用心良苦 in trying to find me a better teacher. I'll work hard.
