The Worst Degree

This is a conversation that went on between me and my pharmacy assistant (PA) yesterday.

PA: Eh, how many years you study to become a pharmacist? 3 yrs?

Me: 4 yrs lor, and 1 year pre-reg training.

PA: Eh I don't understand how come you have to go through these many years of university and still end up doing all these kind of s***.

Me: Huh?!

PA: I see my friend ah, graduate with a degree, just sit in office, surf the net, play games on the computer and when necessary sign documents, and he draws $2.7K/mth. When I see you all pharmacists ah, I don't know leh. It's like the pharmacy degree is the worst degree you can ever get from a university.

Me: Aiyah, doctors have it the same what. In fact all the healthcare professionals have it bad.

PA: Doctors different lah. They are higher paid than you so there's some sort of compensation.

Me: Okay... whatever you say.

Yah, pharmacists to get a lot of s****y work. Besides counseling patients on their medication for FREE, we provide FREE medical advice, we listen to their sob stories about how their children are not giving them enough money, we listen to their complains about our gah-men, we get verbally abused (and sometimes physically abused) by them. My PA's right, I did not go through university to get a professional degree just so I can be treated like s*** and do s****y work. Anybody out there reading this and considering a pharmacy degree, think carefully. Think it through a thousand times.
