It's a Sign?

Been having aches in the right side of my jaw. Thought it may be a tooth decay, but then it's unlikely as it does not hurt all the time. I only get sharp pain at the joint after a day's worth of talking to patients. Sometimes the stiffness and pain doesn't even permit me to chew a sweet.

In addition, I've been experiencing dull aches in my right wrist at the end of each day. Worried that it may be carpal tunnel, as a number of pharmacy staff have this problem and most of them had to undergo surgery to correct the problem. However, when I read up on carpal tunnel, the symptoms do not not tally. Maybe it's just a case of tendinitis. Oh well, I'll just wait and see.

Nevertheless, I wonder if these are signs of my body telling me I can no longer physically cope with this job. Something of a backlash for moving and working so fast. I mean, my senior (in-charge) has severe backaches, my technician has carpal tunnel, now I have aches in my jaw and wrist. Maybe the 3 of us should slow down, or maybe it is time for us to leave; occupational hazards abound in the pharmacy and it is really not worth it when the management does not bother to improve work environment.

Anonymous Anonymous's take on this matter...

if its a sudden sharp pain when you chew, it may be due to a cracked tooth. do you usually chew on hard things or are any of your right molars heavily patched up?

by the way, when was your last dental checkup? (ok, i know i sound like my boss who's always bugging me to go check my teeth)

sore wrist, try a wrist rest? boss says its quite good now she's got one; wrist feels much betta. personally i just rotate my wrist or just stay off the mouse for a while.

Blogger Yamosh's take on this matter...

It's not a sudden sharp pain when chewing. I cannot even open my mouth to pop in a sweet without experiencing pain.

Take today as an example, I am not working therefore not much talking. Consequently I did not experience any aches in the jaw.

As for a wrist rest, it's kind of complicated. I mean I actually use the keyboard more than the mouse. Anyway, my dispensing counter is really cluttered with NETs, credit card machines, computer and a queue no. pad. On top of that I have to put the medicine I need to dispense. Really can't think of a place to put wrist rest when we can't even put mouse pad.

Basically the hospital is not concerned about the work environment. When accidents happen they blame the staff for not doing anything about the work hazards. The staff is always at fault even though we tried to feedback; talking to our management is worse than talking to the walls.
